Our first Slam of the season, our Halloween Slam, was on Wednesday October 24th.

The winner was was Meghan Heimbecker!

Meghan was kind enough to answer a few questions on her Slam experience and other things.

What piece did you do to win The Slam?

What was one of your favorite shows you have done?
 My Children! My Africa! at the Wilma Theater

What did you like about The Starving Artists Slam?
The enthusiasm from the crowd for each performer to get up and do their thing

What is your favorite food?
 Yogurt & fruit & almonds & honey - all mixed together

If you had to choose between a blender and a toaster which would you pick?
Honestly?
A blender - to make smoothies...or hummus...or daquiris!

Meghan Heimbecker is from Philadelphia and has a BFA in Acting/Minor in Musical Theatre from Point Park Conservatory.  Local acting credits: Enchanted April (Walnut Street Theatre), My Children! My Africa! (Wilma Theater, Barrymore Nomination: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play), Six of One (11th Hour Theatre Company), Butterflies are Free (Montgomery Theater).  Local assistant directing credits: Trying, Finian's Rainbow (Walnut Street Theatre), Stormy Weather: Imagining Lena Horne (Prince Music Theater).  Meghan is a teaching artist for the Walnut Street Theatre, Upper Darby Summer Stage, Wolf Performing Arts Center and The Institute for the Arts in Education.

The rules for the three minute slam are simple:

1.  Must be from a play.  If it is unpublished play or if you wrote it-you must bring a copy of monologue. 

2.  You only have three minutes total to do your monologue(s). Your time starts when you start your first monologue.

3.  You may do two monologues, but they must total three minutes in length.

4.  We will call time if you go over the limit.

5.  Any photos taken during the slam are HATG property. We will also use your name for publicity in the future.

6.  We are not responsible for any harm that will come to you with your prize. 

7.  All judges decisions are final.

8.  Members of HATG will give the final vote, if there is a tie. For the one-minute monologue-HATG members/host will judge the audience response.  All decisions are final.

9.  Everyone is required to pay the 10.00 entrance fee.  Including audience and participants.  NO COMPS

10.  You must use your drink ticket w/in the time of the slam.  And the drink ticket must be used upstairs. 

11. You can not win the three minute slam two consecutive slams in a row.
